Hardwood Floors Replace Kitchen Do Under Dishwasher

I bought a house where they put in new wood floors which were thick and when the dishwasher needed replacing we had to remove the tile counter top to get it out.

Always put the same flooring under your appliances. To start you ll need to expose as much of the kitchen floor as possible by moving the appliances to another room. What i think happened is that the linoleum down now is the second floor put in since the cabinets went in. That s with a 1 2 inch particle board on top of my subfloor. I ve removed the particle board to expose the subfloor but if i install the hardwood underneath the dishwasher i ll be 1 4 too high therefore the dishwasher won t fit.

The trickiest part was getting the tile level with the exsisting floor. This is fine until the dishwasher needs repair or replacing. Typically vinyl floors are installed in a dishwasher recess while built up flooring such as tile and hardwood terminate along the front edge of the recess. Took a couple of tries on the first tile but after that it was a breeze.

It was a lot of labor frustration and mess. Unfortunately that means either damage to the floor or moving forward with that new counter replacement. It may be tempting to just work around your stove or refrigerator since the floor under these never sees the light of day anyway but doing so can cause problems down the road when you cannot move the appliance over the hardwood lip install an appliance with different dimensions. Solicit a helper to rock or shift the dishwasher forward onto the dolly s platform.

There is a good 3 4 difference between the kitchen floor and the adjoining but lower dining room floor.
