Flooring specialists use a routine procedure for nailing all boards in an installation except for those in the first and last rows.
Hardware to fasten down last row of hardwood flooring.
Put the first board of the new row in place.
Seat the end tongue and groove flooring into each other and push the two boards together for a tight seam.
On the last row cut the pieces to fit measuring the distance from the wall to the board not the tongue minus the expansion gap.
I don t do hardwood all the time but when the flooring nailer won t fit i switch to the 15 ga then that don t fit use the 18 ga with some dabs of glue then you re usually close enough to glue the last row or two and drive wedges to hold until dry.
Then insert the piece with a pry bar and a piece of scrap wood to protect the wall.
Cut the last length to fit leaving a 3 4 inch expansion gap and nail it in place.
If the final piece is 1 inch wide or less apply a small amount of wood glue to the tongue and groove.
Nail down the board moving down the row until you reach the side wall.
